Isobutylated melamine formaldehyde resin Melamine Resin MK 81-S
General Description

MK 81-S is a very clear colourles highly reactive resin of relatively high viscosity and has a very good compatibility with a rang of film forming polymers. Chemically MK 81-S is a isobutyl ether of polymeric melamine formaldehyde condensate with the primary functional groups of isobutoxy methyl methylol. MK 81-S can be used in combination with alkyd resin of short to medium oil length, saturated polyesters and hydroxyl functional acrylic resins to producehard films with very good adhesion, flexibility and gloss. Therefore MK 81-S is an ideal crosslinking agent for high quality baking enamels used in automotive top -coat, appliance, and can-coating formulations. Furthermore,  MK 81-S contains special formaldehyde scavenger in order to reduce formaldehyde emission during baking operation. The stability of the paints containing MK 81-S is excellent due to the good solubility characteristics of the resin.

Deliveryform

Solution, approximately 60% in isobutanol in 200kg drums.

Storage life

Minimum 16 months after delivery. However, the drums should be stored temperatures not exceeding 30°C and they should be protected from direct sun light.

Recommendations for use

In conjunction with short oil alkyd resins at a ratio of 8:2 or 7:3 calculated as solids, very good quality stoving finishes can be otbained. Similar ratio may also be used with thermosetting hydroxyl functional acrylic resins. The stoving schedule for these systems should be 30 minutes at 125°C or 10-15 minutes at 160°C with psecial alkyd resin of very high reactivity (for exampel dehyrated castor oil modified alkyd types).
It is possible to lower the stoving temperature down to90°C. However, the new approach to low temperature curing is to use novel acid catalysts. With a suitable one, very good curing can be obtained at low stoving temperatures.

Isobutylated urea formaldehyde resin Urea Resin MK 78
General Description

MK 78 is a isobutyl ether ofpolymeric urea-formaldehyde condensate. It has relatively low molar ratio of formaldehyde to urea in order to reduce formaldehyde emission during baking operations. Furthermore MK 78 has a very low free formaldehyde content as it is sopplied due to the special scavenger. MK 78 is recommended  only for the production of baking enamels. Alkyd-urea, alkyd-urea-melamine, epoxy-urea combinations for primers and topcoats are the main fields of application. In these system, MK78 can also be used in epoxy-polyamide system as a flow promoter. Addition of 2-3% on solid epoxy is the normal amount for this specific prpose. Finishes containing MK78 exhibit good degree of stability provided thatthey contain edequate primary alcohol such as isobutanol. The other alcohols are not recommended since alkoxy groups present in MK 78 (like in all other urea resins) are prone to trans etherification which can cause undesireable effects on the film properties such as unsufficient hardness, loss of adhesion etc.

Solution, apporximately 60% in isobutanol in 200 kg drums.

Storage life
