General Description
MK 78 is a isobutyl ether ofpolymeric
urea-formaldehyde condensate. It has
relatively low molar ratio of formaldehyde
to urea in order to reduce formaldehyde
emission during baking operations.
Furthermore MK 78 has a very low free
formaldehyde content as it is sopplied due
to the special scavenger. MK 78 is
recommended only for the production of
baking enamels. Alkyd-urea,
alkyd-urea-melamine, epoxy-urea combinations
for primers and topcoats are the main fields
of application. In these system, MK78 can
also be used in epoxy-polyamide system as a
flow promoter. Addition of 2-3% on solid
epoxy is the normal amount for this specific
prpose. Finishes containing MK78 exhibit
good degree of stability provided thatthey
contain edequate primary alcohol such as
isobutanol. The other alcohols are not
recommended since alkoxy groups present in
MK 78 (like in all other urea resins) are
prone to trans etherification which can
cause undesireable effects on the film
properties such as unsufficient hardness,
loss of adhesion etc.
Delivery form
Solution, apporximately 60% in isobutanol in
200 kg drums.
Storage life
Minimum 16 mounts after delivery. However,
the drums should be stored temperatures not
exceeding 30°C and they
should be protected from direct sun light.
